NextEra wants to build a 300MW lithium-ion battery storage system ( BESS) they call the “CORBY PROJECT” on the corner of Kilkenny and Byrnes Rd in Vacaville. This would be one of the largest in the state of CA. Solano County has a temporary ban on these facilities, however they intend to bypass our county and apply at the STATE. Their application is almost complete!
They just announced an OPEN HOUSE they are holding next week to speak to the community about their project.
Wednesday, July 23rd 5-7pm
Ulatis Community Center.
This is important to attend, ask questions and show our opposition to the developers. Let’s demand they PULL their project application and build it elsewhere!
Reasons to oppose this project:
-impacts from fires
-Toxic smoke
– water runoff pollution in waterways
– ties up county and emergency response
-costs county money for emergency services
– endangers health and safety of residents
-endangers health and safety of animals / livestock
-causes financial hardship and displacement if residents evacuate for days
– impacts to air quality for surrounding communities
– road closures/ possible impacts to HWY 80
– costs for soil remediation and cleanup post fire
– creates a brownfield site – no longer viable farming in area
Impacts without a fire:
– home values decrease
– noise pollution for residents
– takes away prime AG land something that should be protected
– costs to fire departments to train and purchase specific firefighting equipment
– development that doesn’t fit county specific plans (county focused on agriculture)
– impacts city of Vacaville specific plan ( focused on biotechnology)
See you there!
